The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity has a magnificent history of tradition and brotherhood that began on March 9, 1856, at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Since that time, more than 258,000 men have been initiated, and more than 250 chapters founded. The members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon base their teaching on the basic ideal of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, "The True Gentleman:"

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies, who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.
- John Walter Wayland

The University of Evansville is home to one of Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s most honored chapters. Recently, the Evansville chapter was awarded the Most Improved Chapter which is given to only one chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in the United States and Canada. The chapter also received awards for being active in community service.

At UE, the men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon excel in academics, athletics, philanthropy and leadership. Sigma Alpha Epsilon has won many local awards in these areas, while also maintaining some of the best social life the University has to offer. Our common goals make possible the strong brotherhood that is the backbone of our fraternity. We look forward to meeting you in the fall and invite you to take a look at what Greek life has to offer.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon is a diverse group of men who find strength in brotherhood and strive to accomplish their goals with integrity and honor.
