Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep)
Chapter: Nickname: Founded: Founded Locally: Philanthropy: Flower: Colors: Famous Members: Building balanced leaders for the world’s communities has been Sig Ep’s mission since 1901. Leadership is developed by helping members strive for balance in their lives, building sound minds and sound bodies as a lifetime habit based on one of the core ideas of ancient Greek philosophy of the Balanced Man. The founders of Sigma Phi Epsilon admired the ancient Greeks and desired to establish a fraternity based upon its balanced life ideal. They selected virtue, diligence and brotherly love as their cardinal principles. The University of Evansville chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon believes these three principles to be as important now as they were in 1901 when Sig Ep began. Sig Ep recently celebrated its 50th anniversary at UE, making it the oldest national fraternity on campus. More than 1,050 UE men have pledged Sig Ep. All the members have exemplified the Balanced Man ideals by participating in campus and community organizations. These include: Orientation Leaders, Admission Ambassadors, Student Congress offices, Youth First, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and many other organizations. Last year alone, Sig Ep raised nearly $6,000 for Youth First, a local substance abuse education program, during their annual Sig Ep A-Go-Go dance competition. UE Sig Eps, in keeping with the tradition of a social fraternity, indulge in the social aspect of Greek Life as much as any other fraternity by holding themed parties such as Dante’s Inferno, Apocalypse Now and Bacchanal, as well as date parties around Halloween and Valentine’s Day. The Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at UE takes pride in having a house. The fraternity is home to many men from all parts of the country, as well as different parts of the world. Having a diverse house allows the members of the fraternity to learn about different cultures and backgrounds. The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon are some of the most well-respected men on campus, due to their involvement in all aspects of the University. The strong brotherly bond of the men in Sig Ep allows for a college experience that cannot be forgotten. Sig Eps work together everyday to help each brother become the Balanced Man while at the University of Evansville. Sigma Phi Epsilon invites all men with great qualities to become members. Sigma Phi Epsilon believes in the "Balanced Man:" brothers should be strong academically, physically and socially. Sig Eps participate in all aspects of the fraternity as well as outside organizations. |
