My Chapter Accepted Me for Who I Was

Each sorority is unique and different in its own great way.  My experience in my chapter has enhanced my college experience so much.  We have so much fun and there is always something to do - mixers with other sororities and fraternities, date parties, formals, philanthropies, Bible study, intramurals, and meetings.  The friendships I have made with this diverse group of women are so strong.  My chapter accepted me for who I was and did not try to change me into what they wanted me to be.  I am able to use my gifts and talents and leadership skills to help enhance my sisterhood.  It is so neat to walk to class and see someone wearing letters and know that you have a special bond with her.

One of the Best Ways to Really Live Every Moment of Your Four Years in College

When I came to UE my freshman year, I was pretty sure I wouldn't join a fraternity but decided to go through recruitment anyway since it was a chance to meet some people and get some free food.  Even at the end of recruitment, I hadn't given serious thought to joining a fraternity until one of my friends, and now fraternity brother, convinced me to give it a second thought.  Needless to say, I joined and I have reaped the benefits of that decision since.  Joining isn't for everyone, but it is one of the best ways to really live every moment of your four years in college and to build foundations that will last a lifetime.

Being Greek Gave Me an Immediate Family

With my family 11 hours away, it was difficult to find people I could confide in, people I could trust.  Being Greek gave me an immediate family and an immediate support system.  My sisters are there for me no matter what, even if I haven't seen them in weeks; there's a special bond that is only understood from the inside.

You Just Have to Find the Right One for You

Deciding to join a fraternity was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.  It has given me endless opportunities that have helped me better myself professionally and socially.  When I first came to college, I was very apprehensive about joining a fraternity.  I thought I was not the fraternity type of person, but then I realized that everyone is a fraternity person, you just have to find the right one for you.  Thanks to being Greek I have had the opportunity to meet many different people on this campus that I would not have met on my own.  I have also been fortunate enough to meet a variety of Greek people from across the Mid-West.  I have been able to establish a prestigious network of leaders including a wide variety of majors and different ethnic backgrounds.  Most importantly, I have made many close friendships that will last lifetime.

Greek Life at the University of Evansville is Completely Different

Coming to college, the last thing I thought I would ever do is go Greek.  Like many, I always pictured Sorority Life on MTV when thinking of the Greek community.  Greek life at the University of Evansville is completely different.  I signed up at the last minute and was very scared going through the entire process.  Yet, as nervous as I was, I was able to open my heart to my sorority.  Since that moment, I have never looked back.  There is a bond between the entire Greek community and through the individual fraternities.  Growing up I was an only child who always wanted a sister.  Never did I realize that in one night I would have 72 sisters that would be by my side through thick and thin.  My sisters have helped me through rough times, supported me in the MS walk, and are always there to laugh with.  The bond that you will find with your new sisters will develop and be just as strong.  Going into college, Greek life presents you with a support group that will never go away.  Not only do I have my sisters, I also have the Panhellenic sisters within the other sororities that I can turn to.  Looking back, it is the best thing I have ever done for myself.  I do not regret one moment of it.  Even if you are unsure about what Greek life will bring, I recommend going through recruitment.  Those are memories that will last a lifetime.
